Fortnightly Friday Freebies! Dango Pattern

So I here I am back again, this time wanting to share the pattern for the dango hairclip that I have made just a few days ago. It was quite an easy pattern to make up but a lot of fun and it's really quick if you need something cute to go with your outfit! So this is what you'll need to make the Hanami Dango Hairclip.  *three sets of 7.5mm plastic eyes *Yarn in the colours you want. I went with the colours above and the brown is for the dango stick *Bobby pin or whatever you would like to use to attach to your hair later. Dango Balls (make 3, one in each colour) Round 1: CH2, SCx6 in the 2nd stitch from the hook (6) Round 2: 2SCx6 (12) Round 3: [2SC, SC]x6 (18) Round 4 - 6: SCx18 (18, 3 rounds) Attach the eyes now. I put them between rounds 4 and 5. They're about 4 - 5 stitches apart. Round 7.  [SC2tog, SC]x6 (12) Round 8.  SC2togx6 (6) Depending on how comfortable you are stuffing things, you might want to stuff before completing ro

Thinking on a Thursday

So it's been another week already. The weeks are kind of just flying quickly around now aren't they? It's like the older we get, the faster time seems to move. There are so many things to do and my list just seems to get longer day by day...well my crochet list. Everyday I think of something new that I want to make. I add it to the bottom of my list and hopefully I'll get there one day. Then my list often gets reshuffled as different types of inspiration hit me. I also add to my queue other designs that I purchase to support other crocheters in the community. This little robot is a freshstitches.com design. So where do I get my inspiration from? Well, it's quite obvious that I'm a very fandom oriented crochet designer. I rarely come up with corchet patterns of my own which is why I'll probably never release a book of my own because I don't think I'm really that great at coming up with original ideas. Although, one day I might be able to? M

Karaage and Omurice

Hello! It's been a long time since I have made a post about food. I have been cooking quite a bit still but they've been really easy things that I have done before or I have been really lazy with taking photos but this past weekend, my boyfriend was at a Netrunner tournament so I decided to make him lunch! I made him a nice little box of karaage and omurice as well as another box of salad (that I didn't take a picture of because it didn't seem important that I was able to cut up vegetables and make a salad.). So I adapted some recipes to suit what I had in my kitchen from  No recipes  and from Your Japanese Kitchen from 26 September 2011. So to make this little bento you will need the following ingredients (and it makes enough to serve about 4 - 5 people depending on how much you eat) Karaage Ingredients 500g chicken thighs, boneless skin on and cut into 2.5cm pieces (my chicken was skinless) 1 tablespoon ginger, grated (in the image below you can see I used

Thoughtful Thursdays~!

I have been making so many things lately. The turtles that I made last time have almost all sold out! There is only Leonardo left. Poor thing. It appears he is the least loved out of all the four. And the most loved at the moment is Donatello since I have sold him and since then been asked to commission another one~ He is the same as the other turtles except the eyes were specially chosen for him. A little more red here but it's a browny shade of red. I am thinking of making another four of them really soon so I can add them to my shop at the next convention but there are so many things that I need to make! And I'm planning which pattern I'm going to be releasing next week! I might also be taking a small break from pattern writing and crochet designing to making some Freshstitches patterns that I've received but not had a chance to make yet. I have a dog pattern and a kit club pattern that I haven't had a chance to touch yet! But today is a day for thinking

Friday Fortnight Freebies! - Nyanko Sensei

So I said I would try to be doing this more often so this is going to be my first one! I'm quite excited. I'm releasing quite a simple one today and it's going to involve needlefelting as well as crochet techniques! But don't be worried. As always, if you don't want to needlefelt, all the things that I have needlefelted on can be sewn on out of fabric instead or painted on with fabric paint or however you prefer to complete. If you make this pattern, please send me photos because I would like to see what everyone else makes! First I started with the body. The body is made from an oval kind of shape and very slightly tapers towards the head part. It is made from the tail end to the head end so if you need to, you might want to leave a marker to where the top of the piece is or leave the tail attached until after you've finished the head. Body Round 1: CH2, SCx6 in the 2nd stitch from the hook (6) Round 2: 2SCx6 (12) Round 3: [2SC, SC]x6 (18)

Thoughtful Thursdays

It's come Thursday again and this week hasn't been a very thoughtful week at all considering I have spent the entire week busily making all of the little plushies that I could to send to all my friends around the globe. Some of them have already arrived safely while a few of them like the Byakuya above are still in my room waiting to be boxed and posted. So this week I'm going to be diving into my little book of questions to find a topic to think about and go through. 001: Technology has become a part of us. Would you rather lose the use of all motorized vehicles, all telecommunication devices and computers, or one of your hands? I had a look at this question a while ago and it's actually quite a hard decision. Originally I would have thought the answer would be quite easy but the more I thought about it, the more difficult it became for me to make a real choice. I think in the end I would rather lose the use of all motorized vehicles. At the end of the day,

Moving stores and New completed Plush!

Lately I have been thinking long and hard about whether I would prefer to sell my toys through Etsy or through Storenvy . Both of the platforms have been great to me and I've spent a good amount of time on each of them. Both of the store fronts have pros and cons but in the end I have decided to move my products back to Etsy. And there were quite a few things that influenced my decision. Listing wide, I prefer the layout of Etsy. I think it looks cleaner and is easier to navigate through and has an easy to see feedback system. In Storenvy, there is the ability to list variations per listing as well as how many of each variation there are. The variation part is available in Etsy but you can't specify how many of each you have in stock which I find a little bit sad but it's manageable and in the end I suppose I could always list each one separately if I want to have stock levels but then that pushes up fees which I am trying to avoid. That being said, if I was trying to

Thoughtful Thursdays : What makes an Artist?

I get to thinking a lot about what makes an artist and whether or not I really could classify myself as an artist. When I think of an artist I think of all my wonderful friends who can draw really beautiful pieces of artwork. They create original pieces which are inspired by things around them and I really wish that I could be like that sometimes.  I create things that are based on other people's creations. I am inspired by all the fandoms that I am a part of as well as all the fandoms I'm not a part of but my friends love and their love inspires me. My current WIP.  I have a real hard time creating originals because I don't think I'm a very creative person. I'm not artistic and can sit down in front of my yarn and think of a beautiful mythical creature and then create it out of the materials at hand. I wish I could, but it's not a talent that I have and I don't feel like it's a talent I can build. However, I can sit in front of other people's
