Daring Bakers: Nougat!

Okay so I'm a little late this month with both of my challenges, OOPS. But I did make them and this one was quite exciting. I went out and bought a new candy thermometer! And I whipped up some delicious delicious nougat to share with everyone. It was a nice soft nougat too. Even though after it was done, my mum decided she preferred a harder style. The March 2014 Daring Bakers' challenge was hosted by Rebecca of BakeNQuilt. She challenged us to learn to make classic nougat and to make it our own with our choice of flavors and add-ins. I made a chocolate and peanut soft nougat! Ingredients are as follows: 100  g salted roasted  peanuts, roughly chopped 100  g dark chocolate,  chopped 2  medium egg whites pinch of salt 1/2  teaspoon vanilla bean  paste 350  g caster sugar 100  g golden syrup 50  g liquid glucose 1/4  teaspoon cream of tartar 100  g unsweetened smooth peanut butter And another 200g of dark cho...

Daring Cooks March: Dressing it up!

For March’s Daring Cooks’ Challenge, Ruth, Shelley and Sawsan asked us to totally veg out! We made salads and dressings, letting the sky be the limit as we created new flavors and combinations that reflect our own unique tastes. I'm completely late with posting this one! But I thought I would still throw it up since I did actually do the challenge. For this one, I decided to go with a caesar dressing. After making it, I thought of a few tweaks I might add for next time! I followed the recipe that I found here Ingredients 100g sourdough baguette, cut into 1cm cubes. 3 rashers of bacon, cut up 1/2 cos lettuce 50g shaved cheeses Dressing 1 egg yolk 1 tsp dijon mustard 1 large garlic clove (next time I do this, I'm going to cook the garlic to get the sweetness instead) 2 anchovies, chopped 1 tbsp white wine vinegar 1/4 and 2tbs olive oil This is really really easy to make. After this, you will never buy dressing again because you can throw it together with wh...

Crochet Update~!!

I haven't forgotten this blog, I promise! Lately I've just joined a gym and that's been taking up a lot of my time. Phew!~ But it's good to get back into shape. I've needed the kick in the butt to get myself moving and I joined a gym called Fernwood which I think is great because I feel uncomfortable around guys generally (except for the one that I seem to be dating right now) and I found a really nice all women's gym with really fun classes. I do recommend though, even if you don't want to join a gym, everybody that's following my patterns should totally get off your butt once in a while and go for a walk at least! Get the body moving. Anyway, I'm not going to preach about exercise coz that's not what I'm here about. The crochet patterns! I've been convinced to create a book with all of the pokemon pattern that I'm writing. That doesn't mean I won't still post free ones here, I will still share some of them but I'm ...
