Hey everyone!
A commission came in for an eevee so I thought I'd write down the pattern this time and share it out. I will eventually pattern all the pokemon so the rest of the eeveelutions are definitely going to follow!
All of the Inside Out characters are still on my to make list as well as Animal Crossing Characters. So many projects and so little time! If anybody has anything in particular they are wanting to see, I can see if it's possible to bring it up to the top of my list. Drop me a comment or an email!
When I finished the eevee, the plush was about 22cm long. I forgot to measure the height, oop!
This is what I used to make eevee:
*DK weight yarn – brown, white, black, pink
*G/6 – 4.0mm crochet hook
*Wool Roving – brown, white (or substitute with felt)
*Needlefelting tools (if using roving)
*Foam block for felting on (if using roving)
And without further ado, here is the pattern!
Legend
* SC – Single Crochet
* 2SC – Single crochet twice in the same stitch
* SCx2 – Single crochet once in each stitch the number of times, in this case, 2
* SC2tog – Single crochet 2 stitches together to decrease
* CH – chain stitch
*LS - Loop Stitch
* (xx) – XX numbers in the bracket give an indication of how many stitches in that round
* (xx, yy rounds) – yy indicates how many rounds to repeat the same instruction for
* [crochet instructions]x?? – Repeat the instructions inside the square brackets ?? times
before continuing
* I choose to start my pattern by chainingx2 and then crocheting in the 2nd chain from the
hook. The alternative method is to start with the Magic Circle or if you have your won
preferred method, definitely use that.

Round 4: [2SC, SC]x3, SCx3 [2SCx SC]x3, SCx3 (24)

Round 9 - 18: SCx18 (18, 10 rounds)
Finish off and leave a long tail to sew the leg to the body.
Assembly
Sew the neck piece to the body at a slight angle and at the fatter end.
Sew the head to the neck piece, adding a little stuffing to make the neck firm just before you sew it closed. I sewed the head on just a little off centre to the crochet closure of the head.
Sew the eyes and ears onto the head. For the ears, I sewed them onto the head flat, then after it was sewn on fully, I pinched the base and sewed a stitch to point the base. I find this holds it better in place and helps hold the ear up firmer.
Felt or embroider on the nose and mouth.
Then cut the loops for the hair on top of the head and brush it out. Then trim and style to how you like the top of the eevee head to look. You'll be using this same cut and brush technique for the tail and for the neck pieces. Be very careful not to brush too roughly as this may pull holes in the plush itself. If you had made really long loops, it may help to trim it down prior to brushing just so there's less knots to brush out. Just be careful not to over trim.
I personally like the slight wave the yarn has. If you don't like it, you can either wash the yarn carefully and dry it hanging so that gravity pulls it down or you can use a hair straightener on a low heat.
To style the hair, I use either one of two methods personally. Depending on the look I want, I'll either use a cheap hair spray or a mixture that is glue diluted down with water and brushed on. Sometimes a combination of the two.
Sew the legs onto the plush. Rather than sewing directly on, I sew it so that the legs attach on at an angle. They look more natural that way. Embroider on the toes and sew the pink patch on the bottom of the paw. On the back legs, the pink patch is a little further back on the leg.
Then sew the white eevee neck pieces. I sew the bottom opening closed as a part of sewing the piece down. There should be two big ones for the chest and back then two smaller side pieces. Cut all of the loops that were pulled out and brush out. Then trim and style into the right look for your eevee.
Finally, stuff the tail. Try not to overstuff the tip part so that it stays pointy. Sew the tail to the Eevee.
Cut the loops of the stitches on the tail and brush out. Trim the tip so that it's pointy and you may want to spray with hair spray or use glue water to make the tail hold its shape.

From the second chain from the hook, SC then in the next chain 3SC. Continue crocheting around so that it forms an oval. SC, 3SC.
This should give you an oval shape for the back of the back leg.
For the following piece, it may be easier to pull the loops to the correct side as you finish each round rather than wait until the step listed.

Note
When you are brushing out the tail and neck pieces, brush gently. If you brush really hard, you risk pulling holes in the plush fabric. If you brush in short gentle strokes, this will untwist the yarn and fluff the yarn out into fur-like fabric. I use a fine toothed comb first to get the majority of the yarn untangled and the threads separated. Then I go back through with a pet brush (like a furminator) that fluffs out the remaining yarn as well as cutting away any knots that might not look too good.
Be careful not to overbrush and pull holes. If you do pull a hole anywhere, you can sew them closed and then sew in extra thread to brush out to cover up these areas. I also personally like the slightly wavy look if you leave some of the yarn underbrushed. That's personal preference, if you want it all completely straightened, rather than brushing continuously, you can try washing the yarn with hot water and leaving it to dry straight or use a hair straightener on a low heat. I've used both these methods before.
Don't be too concerned if you lose a lot of yarn. That's a part of the process.
I got all of that from just the tail. |
Eevee is adorable!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your pokemon patterns. Is there any place i can find more of them?
ReplyDeleteHello! Everything that I’ve designed so far is here. I’m currently working on a few more but progress is a little slow at the moment.
